Bird Wing Butterflies are the largest in the world

Bird Wing Butterflies are the largest in the world; some species have a wing span of up to 28 cm. Males have striking wing patterns black with bright iridescent green, blue, orange or yellow. Females are less colourful but are much larger than males. Bird wing butterflies are named because of their angular wings and bird like flight. Birdwings inhabit rainforests from Southeast Asia to Northern Australasia. They feed on nectar from flowers, and can travel long distances pollinating many flowers.
